Volunteer Oportunities
Ongoing maintenance - The campus grounds can always benefit from ongoing TLC beyond the staffing and budget of the school’s hardworking Facilities Department. To meet this need, we schedule periodic maintenance events, generally for two hours on a Saturday morning (weather permitting). The Committee provides tools, guidance and certifies community service hours for all those willing to help. We meet at the gate to the community garden on the Leetsdale side of the school (above the the south parking lot). All adults and students are welcome! Check the Calendar (link) for upcoming dates. Contact Barb DeSarro [email protected] for further information.
Go Green Day - We also sponsor the annual Go Green Day in April or May of each year where dozens of volunteers tackle bigger projects. This year’s Go Green Day is scheduled for Saturday May 4, 2024. Contact Barb DeSarro [email protected] for further information.
Join the Landscape Committee - We are an inclusive, non-bureaucratic, fun group. Our members find our work resulting in observable improvements to the campus very gratifying. We welcome your involvement in our planning and your assistance in supervising volunteer work. No prior horticultural experience is necessary, just a willingness to get your hands dirty! Please contact Barb DeSarro [email protected] for further information.
CAS or other significant student service projects - We have served as advisers to a number of students whose CAS projects coincide with our mission to make the campus beautiful and welcoming. Some of these projects have been horticultural, such as planting a garden bed. Others have been organizational or public relations in nature. In fact, this website was created by a student as his CAS project! Currently, we would welcome a student liaison between our group and the school. Other possibilities include improving forestry practices at the school - or creating an informational app about the campus trees. Contact Lisa Emerson [email protected] for further information.
Community Garden - The GW Landscape Committee and the GW Grow Club have partnered with Denver Urban Gardens to create a community garden at GWHS. For more information, click the link below, or contact Lisa Emerson at [email protected]
